Privacy Policy

Last updated: August 2, 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how Starly ("Starly", "we", "us") collects, uses, shares, and protects personal information when you use our website at starly.com and our hiring application at app.starly.com (together, the "Services").

Starly serves two groups of people: employers who use Starly to evaluate applicants, and job applicants who apply to those employers through a Starly application portal. This policy covers both.

1. Our role: controller and processor

When we handle information about employer accounts, such as your name, email address, company, and billing details, Starly acts as a data controller.

When an employer uses Starly to collect and evaluate applications, that employer is the controller of the applicant data, and Starly acts as a data processor on the employer's behalf. Applicants who want their data corrected or deleted should contact the employer they applied to, and we will support that employer in honoring the request.

2. Information we collect

From employers

  • Account information: name, work email, company name, job title, and locations.
  • Billing information: plan, billing address, and payment records. Card details are handled by our payment processor and are not stored by Starly.
  • Usage data: pages visited, features used, device and browser type, and IP address.

From job applicants

  • Application information: name, contact details, resume or work history, availability, and answers to application questions.
  • Evaluation data: the scores, category ratings, and recommendations Starly generates from the application.
  • Follow-up responses: answers to any follow-up questions sent through the Services.

We do not ask applicants for government identification numbers, financial account details, or health information through the application portal.

3. How we use information

  • To provide the Services, including scoring applications against our hiring methodology and presenting ranked results to the employer.
  • To create, secure, and support user accounts.
  • To process payments and manage subscriptions.
  • To improve the accuracy and reliability of our scoring methodology and product.
  • To communicate with you about your account, security, and service updates.
  • To detect, prevent, and investigate fraud, abuse, and security incidents.
  • To comply with legal obligations.

We do not sell personal information. We do not share applicant data with other employers, and we do not use applicant data for advertising.

4. Automated evaluation and human decision-making

Starly uses automated processing to score applications against a structured, role-specific rubric and to produce a recommendation. These outputs are decision support, not decisions. Starly does not hire, reject, or reach any final employment decision.

Employers remain responsible for their hiring decisions and for complying with all employment, anti-discrimination, and automated-employment-decision laws that apply to them, including any notice, consent, bias-audit, or accommodation requirements in their jurisdiction.

An applicant who would like a human review of an evaluation, or who needs an accommodation in the application process, should contact the employer they applied to.

5. How we share information

  • With the employer you applied to, if you are an applicant.
  • With service providers who support the Services, such as cloud hosting, payment processing, email delivery, analytics, and AI model providers. They may process personal information only on our instructions and under contract.
  • For legal reasons, where required by law or to protect the rights, safety, and property of Starly, our users, or the public.
  • In a business transfer, such as a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, subject to this policy.

6. Data retention

We retain employer account information for as long as the account is active and for a reasonable period afterward to meet legal, tax, and audit obligations.

Applicant data is retained for as long as the employer maintains an active account, or for the retention period that employer configures, unless a longer period is required by law. When an employer closes their account, we delete or de-identify associated applicant data within a commercially reasonable period.

7. Security

We use technical and organizational measures designed to protect personal information, including encryption in transit, access controls, and role-based permissions within employer accounts. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

8. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or receive a copy of your personal information, to object to or restrict certain processing, and to withdraw consent. You also have the right not to be discriminated against for exercising these rights.

Employers can exercise these rights by emailing us. Applicants should contact the employer they applied to, and we will assist that employer in responding.

9. Cookies

We use cookies and similar technologies to keep you signed in, remember preferences, and understand how the Services are used. You can control cookies through your browser settings. Blocking some cookies may affect how the Services work.

10. International transfers

Starly is operated from the United States, and personal information may be processed in the United States and other countries where our service providers operate. Where required, we use appropriate safeguards for these transfers.

11. Children

The Services are not directed to children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. Applicants must meet the minimum working age that applies to the role they are applying for.

12. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will update the date above and, where appropriate, notify you through the Services or by email.
